Au Revoir Week Nine. Good Riddance!

The heat won’t quit. Although, we enjoyed a cold snap (mid 70s) that lasted all of two days. Ha! Again, I pushed my weekday runs to the following morning so I could avoid the afternoon heat. Week 8 consisted ofย 6 miles on Wednesday (1:10:32), 4 miles on Friday (44:47) and 8 miles on Saturday (1:38:13 – THREE minutes faster than my previous 8 miler!) Sunday’s 2 mile recovery run got pushed to Monday. I’ll explain a little later.

I didn’t take any photos on Sunday. This is about the same time my brain went on vacation. LOL I woke up feeling like a zombie. I could’ve slept all day but I forced myself to get up and human. *WARNING: TMI AHEAD* PMS and all that goes along with it really jacked up my week. My piddly 2 mile run got pushed to Monday. That was the hardest 2 miles I’ve run in a while. ๐Ÿ˜€ I skipped running on Tuesday and Thursday. I was too hot, too tired and too cranky. By Friday night, my brain returned and I was fretting my Saturday long run. My alarm went off at 6am. My plan was to be out running by 7am. The forecast high for the day was 91. I’m notorious for farting around so naturally, I got out the door at 7:30am. By mile 2, I was feeling the effects of taking the week off. I wanted to stop and walk but I kept telling myself, “Just 7 miles left.” and kept counting down. It helped a little. I try all kinds of tricks to keep myself going. Usually goofy pep talks like: “I’m not going out like that.” “Nuh uh, I’m not brand new.” “Eyes on the prize.” Really embarrassing stuff. ha ha ha By mile 7, I was seeing shapes in the bird droppings on the ground. I, for real, saw the silhouette of the Air Jordan logo. I should’ve stopped for a photo.

Both knees and right hip were bothering me towards the end of my run. I’ve noticed a nagging pain in my right foot too. I figured it was time to replace my running shoes. The Saucony Hurricane 16 have worked well for me so I dug around the interwebz (I know, sorry) and found them on sale. WOOT! I also found Hoka One One Clifton on sale (original not Clifton 2) so decided to give them a try.

SeaWheeze is just around the corner. I’m starting to get so excited for it! THEN KAUAI!!!

Boo is not excited.

Boo is not as excited about SeaWheeze or Kauai.

Week 10 should be interesting. The weather is a mystery. I’m seeing forecasts anywhere from 70 degrees with showers to sunny and 80 degrees. The higher miles are really starting to intimidate me. But I’ll stick to what’s working for me. I can’t remember where I read this phrase, it may have been Runner’s World, “Run the mile you’re in.” Kind of a “duh” statement but I love it. It helps me chop up the runs into bite size, doable pieces. During the hilly portions, I usually give thanks for the ability and strength to make it up those hills and pray for additional strength and mental toughness to get through the run without stopping. These are my one-on-ones with God. It does my mind and body good. ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time, thanks for reading!

Two Weeks Plus One

I’m a poor excuse for a blogger, LOL. Sorry for the silence. I haven’t run since my last post so not much to blog about. I’ve been avoiding my training runs. Self-sabotage? Maybe BUT I’m still crossing that finish line!

On the other hand, my husband has stuck to his training plan 100%. He’s been waking up early, sometimes at four in the morning(!) on weekends to get in his long runs. I’m envious of his discipline and determination. I tend to procrastinate and let my inner fat kid make all the decisions. Ugh! My plan is to get out and run this weekend. Maybe I’ll have an update within the next few days. One bit of good news, I’ve lost about 9 pounds since the beginning of June just by making better food choices.

Thankfully, the weather finally cooled down a bit the past few days. My new favorite dinner has been a tomato and mayo sandwich. So delicious and perfect for hot weather. There’s nothing like the smell of toasted bread. Mmmmmmm…

Perfect summer dinner.

We went over to my parent’s house to see Mom on her birthday. She shared some of her awesome garden goodies.

I have no clue how to prepare eggplant. This should be interesting. Who knew eggplant came from such pretty flowers? I didn’t, that’s for sure.

Since I don’t have anything to mention about running, I’ll post my latest beauty haul. I recently saw a review of Colleen Rothschild Beauty on YouTube by LisaLisaD1. She mentioned that the eye cream and body lotion were amazing so, of course, I had to give them a try! I’ll share my thoughts once I’ve had a chance to try them.

I also got lucky and won a nifty pint glass from Nuun! I thought it would have a watermelon printed on it but it’s just the standard logo. *pouts*

That’s all for now. Kauai is sooooo close. I’m getting super excited for the trip. The half marathon is haunting me but I will have fun NO MATTER WHAT! ๐Ÿ˜€ Until next time, I’ll leave you with this…

Boo, wondering when I'll get out for a run next.
