Are We There Yet?

We made it to the middle of week 11. Boredom and brain fatigue are starting to creep in. My training runs are not as fun as they were a few weeks ago. UGH I’m sticking as closely to the plan as I can muster but it’s been a struggle. I figure these ups and downs are normal. At the same time, I’m getting really excited for SeaWheeze which is a little over 2 weeks away. EEEP!

I skipped my recovery run last Sunday (end of week 9). Week 10, I ran on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings.

Neon PC Runner socks and Hoka One One Clifton.

I took my new Hoka Clifton out for a spin. They were springy and super light. The sole is a little thicker than I’m used to which caused me to scuff the bottoms here and there. Not a big deal. I was just happy I didn’t trip and fall. I thought my PRO Compression neon PC Runner socks went well with the bright Hokas. 😀 By the way, if you’re looking for a good, low profile running sock, these are great. No slipping, sliding or disappearing into your shoe. PRO Compression also makes my favorite compression sleeve. I think I’ve posted about them before but they’re just so convenient to wear around with flip flops.

Friday, 7/24/15: 4 miles (45:59).

I took a last minute day off and went over to my mom’s to help her with some bathroom updates she was having done. As payment, she made lunch. 😛 Korean dumpling soup or Su Je Bi. One of my favorite dishes of all time. Mouth scorching jalapeno slices are mandatory. YUM!

Saturday, 7/25/15:

Faster than last Saturday! Weeeee!!!

Faster than last Saturday! Weeeee!!!

Saturday.

Saturday.

Saturday’s 9 miles came and went. Two miles in, I was a little skeptical about being able to finish. My right foot was still giving me grief and my head wasn’t in it. But somehow, I kept plugging along and telling myself to go another mile. It got easier once I hit the halfway point but overall not a good day. I was surprised to see that my time was about 8 minutes quicker than last Saturday. Unexpected for sure.

The remainder of my weekend was rest, relaxation, homemade guacamole and spending time with Jon. Boo had to get in his snuggle time too.

That’s all I’ve got this time around. The next time I post will most likely be RIGHT before SeaWheeze weekend! WOOOOO HOOOO!!! Let the madness begin!!!

Until next time, thanks for reading!

The Fourth Week

…of half marathon training, that is. So far, so good. In the past, there was no such thing as “training” for me. I would run a few miles, here and there, then expect to run a half marathon without walking. Um yeah, it doesn’t work that way. Not for me, anyhow. LOL I’m determined to change my habits this time around. I’ve just started my 4th week and feeling pretty good.

Thursday, 5/28/15: 2.1 miles

Calm before the storm.

Calm before the storm.

The weather has been warming up day by day. By Tuesday, it was in the low 80s. Running in heat is my kryptonite. I was supposed to run 3 miles but I quit after 2.1. Sad. I’m wearing dayglo orange for visibility. I almost got hit by a car on Tuesday so it’s bright colors from now on. Eeep!

Saturday, 5/30/15: 5 miles

I forgot to stop my watch at 5 miles flat. LOL My time was 1:01:09.

Sunday, 5/31/15: 3 miles

Before my 3 mile run.

I think I need to rotate my running tops a little more.

Jon is on the hunt for some better running shirts. Lululemon’s Metal Vent Tech tees are great for shorter runs but they get waterlogged and heavy for anything longer than 6 miles. Any ideas? What is your favorite running top? We went to Road Runner Sports to see what they had. Jon didn’t find a shirt but he surprised me with a Garmin 220. I’ve been wanting a new GPS watch for a while. My old watch was starting to get glitchy. Plus, it felt like I was wearing an anvil on my wrist. LOL

I took my new watch out for a spin on Tuesday. Ran 4 miles but didn’t get any photos because senile. I love the watch! It’s light weight and tracks your splits automatically! No more stalking my watch to push the stupid lap button! Wooohooo! Welcome to 2015, Michelle!

Thursday, 6/4/15: 4 miles

Saturday and Sunday were WAY too hot. WAY.

Saturday’s stats.

Saturday’s run was a big deal for me. I haven’t run 6 miles without stopping/walking in years. If I remember correctly, the last time was at the 2008 Iron Girl 10K. I wasn’t sure that I could pull it off but I kept telling myself to think positive. I tried to get an early start to beat the heat. 8:40am isn’t very early but I kept smashing that snooze button. I felt good for most of my run. It was hot but there was a slight breeze to keep things sane. My run ended near my mother-in-law’s house. I met Jon there and cooled off in mom’s beautiful back yard. I was very thankful for a cool bench, a little shade and ice cold water with a tri-berry GU Hydration drink tablet.

Sunday’s 3 miler felt hard. I started out at 8am but it felt even warmer than the day before. Why am I such a wimp when it comes to heat?

Mom to the rescue! She took me out to Palace Bar and Grill in Federal Way for ice cold naeng myun. This was the perfect meal for a 90 degree day. After lunch, we stopped at H-Mart for some groceries. I picked up some goldfish shaped ice cream sandwiches. They come in a few different flavors like strawberry, sweet red bean paste (azuki beans) and plain vanilla. The outside layer is made of a thin wafer and filled with vanilla ice cream. I got red bean and it was delicious! Reminds me of the shave ice with ice cream and azuki beans I had in Oahu. YUM! 😛

Boo, our Schnoodle, had his buddy Lickity over to play. A cat caught Boo’s attention but Lickity is too short to look out the screen door. Problem solved.

That’s about all the rambling and awkwardness I have for now. Until next time, thanks for reading! 🙂

And so it begins…with a dash of randomness.

As planned, I started my half marathon training last week. I’m following a 16 week program that Jon found on http://www.halfmarathons.net (not affiliated). It consists of 4 runs per week: Tuesday, Thursday, long run on Saturday and shorter recovery run on Sunday. The first week went pretty well. I’m at 3 to 4 miles per day. Saturday was my 4 mile “long” run. Being Memorial Day weekend and all, it was drizzling rain in my neighborhood. Typical. These crackling power lines on my route are just a little scary. 😛

Drizzle+power lines = snapcracklepop

Hills are unavoidable unless I want to run in circles around my house. Ugh. It’s great practice for the Kauai course but the hills are no joke. When my calves are on the verge of cramping and my quads are crying, I tell myself “Make that hill your b*tch!” hahaha It works! Try it. Just don’t say it too loud.

The weather is warming up and it’s been muggy lately. Last Thursday was tough, almost 80 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to get up to near 80 again. I hope my 3 miles goes by quickly. This Saturday is 5 miles. Eeeeep! My longest run since last October. I’ll try to get it out of the way early in the morning to beat the heat. For some of y’all mid 70s to 80 degrees might be fine but I dread it. 😀 Such a heat wimp!

Here are some of my running OOTD.

A couple of weeks ago, Jon and I went to Las Vegas and spent some time with his sister Julie and her husband Jeff. They were in the midst of a whirlwind road trip and we thought it would be a great time to meet up with them. We had a fantastic time! Caught a show, window shopped, had a Hugh Hefner sighting (LOL) and visited M&M World. We stayed at the Hilton Grand Vacations Suites at the Flamingo. This was my first hotel experience in a room with a full kitchen. hehehe It was awesome. I was running around taking photos of the stove, microwave, coffeemaker and tub. Such a dork! Guests of the Hilton have access to the pool at The Flamingo. Can you say “Night at the Roxbury” swim stylee, yo! I wish I would’ve brought my swim stuff! Definitely the fun spot for the younger crowd.

Dinner at Bacchanal was a let down at $60 per person (not including beer or wine). For that price, the food should be hot. Everything we tried was lukewarm and unless you wanted to stalk the pizza bar for fresh, hot pizza you were eating warm food. The sushi was good and the sauteed green beans (by the Chinese food, not the almondine over by the italian food, LOL) were the best I’ve ever had but it just couldn’t make up for what was lacking. 😦 The following day, we tried Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood. We weren’t expecting much based on the yelp reviews but I was pleasantly surprised. The dolmas and chicken kabobs were really good. I wish I would’ve taken some photos at Spice Market but my brain was on vacation.

It was nice to get away for the weekend and we really enjoyed spending time with Julie and Jeff. ❤ We’ll be seeing them again at Christmas, this time in Texas. Yay!
