42 Eyes of Blue

I realize that blog title makes no sense but I’m loving that “Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue” song lately. It reminds me of my husband’s grandmother, Lucile, who my husband fondly remembers dancing the Charleston when he was wee. She was born in 1912 and passed in 2011. She was one of the smartest, spunkiest, sharpest women I have ever met. I miss her. I loved that she loved dogs as much as I do. She also loved being active, biking, running, walking, dancing. I kind of went off on a tangent, didn’t I?

I was lacking motivation and avoided running all week. My husband and I got up at 5:00am this morning and ran a local 8k. At 8:00am, the weather was an amazing 63Β° with a nice, cool wind. The wind must’ve been blowing in just the right direction because I didn’t feel like it was creating a headwind. Here are a couple pictures before the start.

The course is so pretty. You start in front of a park set up with carnival rides. You run along a trail beside the lake which is teeming with geese (swans? derp) and ducks. ❀ The final 3/4 of a mile takes you over a boardwalk to a gravel path and back to the finish line. My goal was to finish in under one hour. My chip time was 58:41. WOOT! So I averaged an 11:48 mile which is a snail’s pace but I’m so happy with it. πŸ˜€

After I crossed the finish line. Friend ran it in 44:49!

Forgot to stop my watch at the finish.

Since we knew we’d have an early start and be out most of the day, we boarded Boo at his doggie daycare Friday night. After the run, we ran some errands at the mall and I witnessed, with my own eyes, that Lululemon is coming to Tukwila (pronounced tuck-will-uh, LOL)! It’s set to open in November. ZOMG! Eeeeeeep!

Dorking out at the future Lululemon

Dorking out at the future Lululemon. I’m wearing my most awesome The Walking Dead Emerald City Comic Con tee. LOVE!

Afterwards, we went to pick up our dog. I think he had too much fun with his 7 puppy pals. He’s pooped. We love his daycare, they let the pups run around. Not a kennel in sight! He plays ALL DAY LONG. LOL

So. Sleepy.

So. Sleepy.

But, as usual, he perked up when the yoga mat was unrolled. He wouldn’t let Jon roll it back up. hahaha What a nut!

Boo: "Can I finish my cobra pose?"

Boo: “Can I finish my cobra pose?”

That’s enough silliness for one post. My nutrition has been pretty good. I’ve been sticking to my “less snacking” plan and my total weight loss since the beginning of June is 6 pounds. This is enough to keep me on track. This Kauai half is going to be tough but I’m determined to cross the finish line! Until next time, thanks for reading! πŸ™‚

The End...Literally.

And the band played on…47 days!

Halp! I think this heat is melting my brain! I’ve been taking pics here and there with the intention of putting them into a post but I’ve been too busy forgetting. LOL I feel super scattered lately, worse than usual. I’m blaming it on the heat.

Last Thursday evening, it was in the low 80s. I was determined to run a few miles so I headed out with my amphipod for lululemon water bottle. Initially, I told myself I would turn around at 1.5 miles out but I was feeling pretty good so I kept going another half mile. I had to take a couple walk breaks but that’s OK. Did I mention it was hot?

I've had this for months and just now realized it has a giant lululemon logo on the foam sleeve. Derp.

Water break at the 2 mile turn around

The two miles heading back home were not as lovely. The sun was beating down on me and I was running low on water. I wasn’t too sad about the water because that bottle felt like carrying a brick when it was full. LOL I should mention, I get *really* cranky when I’m hot, tired and running. hahaha My poor, poor husband. By the time I got home, I was a sweaty mess which is amazing because I’m not a heavy sweater. That came out wrong, but you know what I mean. I usually only drip sweat during hot yoga. ❀ Anyhow, here’s a blurry pic of my Garmin watch. I was bordering on delirium when I took this photo.

So sweaty! As Roseanne Rosanneadanna would say, “I thought I was gonna die!”

I took it easy Friday since it was my “rest day”. I have no excuse for Saturday, Sunday or today other than HOT! πŸ˜› I took my truck in for some work on Saturday which turned into a 2.5 hour ordeal. I was so bored I was chasing dragonflies in the dealership parking lot. There’s only so much AC and free cookies this girl can handle.

Dragonfly, come here!

C for Cookie, that's good enough for me!

C is for Cookie, that’s good enough for me!

Just kidding, I passed on the cookie. I’ve been losing weight with less snacking so I’m sticking to it. Speaking of snacking, I heard about this 150 calorie per pint ice cream fromΒ http://stuftmama.com/ and decided to try a couple different flavors. I picked up Chocolate Peanut Butter and Mint Chocolate Cookie. At 37 calories per serving, I was hopeful! I have to say, the Mint Chocolate Cookie is REALLY good! It’s lightly sweet and refreshingly minty without tasting like toothpaste. Chocolate Peanut Butter wasn’t so good but I only tried a few spoonfuls. I felt like I was eating frozen water with a peanut aftertaste. Not much chocolate flavor and barely sweet, just barely.

My favorite lunch, lately, is spring mix with a hard boiled egg, jalapeno rings, grilled chicken and a tablespoon of chipotle ranch dressing. YUM It’s cold and delicious!

I LOVE JALAPENO SLICES!

That’s all I’ve got for now. Hopefully, I’ll have more about running in my next post.

Down to 53!

Whew! We made it through the fourth of July without incident! Boo is still a little skittish when he hears a loud noise. It was mercifully quiet last night. Yay for a good night’s sleep!

The weather has been getting progressively hotter the past couple of weeks. I’m the stereotypical Seattleite who complains about the rain and cold but whines about the heat when it gets above 79. LOL I’m a serious weather wimp. I love summer and sunny days but when I can’t cool down, I whine…incessantly. πŸ˜› I’m sure my dog is not too happy about the heat either. Have I mentioned he’s a nut? He likes to sleep in really goofy positions as evidenced here:

After the hiking boot incident on Friday, I googled some reviews and settled on these Scarpa Luna GTX from REI.com:

This photo makes my size 9 banana feet look small. ❀ How do you like the snazzy pink New Zealand bed socks? Silly, I know. I just wanted thick socks to try with the boots. Anyone else pronounce “New Zealand” in their head with an accent? I did! haha OK, focus! The boots are lightweight, waterproof and sleek. No clompy, heavy sole here. I’m excited to give them a try. My husband and I hope to attempt Annette Lake again soon.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise but I didn’t run yesterday or today. *gasp* I did get to the gym on Sunday morning for a treadmill (dreadmill in my world) run. So incredibly boring! I guess it’s safer than trying to run alone in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, I run a lot slower and am a lot shorter than my husband. We tried to run outdoors together but he has to modify his running form to run my speed. It’s not good running mechanics. LOL I was pretty stoked to get about 4.9 miles under my belt. My workout was 64 minutes total. BLARGH! But I got it done. haha

This was after. Sorry about the scary, in-truck photo but this is the “real” me. Yikes.

Flared nostrils. YAY!

After work, I hustled to a TSA office to sign up for TSA Precheck (I won’t have to take off my shoes at airport security, wheeeee!) and then to GNC to stock up on Quest Protein Bars. They’re currently “buy 2 get 1 free” and I received a $10.00 off coupon in the mail. I’ve been having a bar for breakfast the past few weeks and they keep me filled up until lunch. I’ve lost about 3 pounds in that time, slow and steady. I’ve been snacking less and chewing more gum. haha My goal is to lose the weight at a safe rate which also helps me with running (speed and effort). I grabbed a box of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough to try out all of the online recipes. I’ve heard they’re AMAZING baked in the oven. NOM I also picked up various other flavors to try.

Happy 4th of July! 57 days until TKM!

My husband and I tried to revisit our tradition of going for a hike on the 4th of July. We were excited to see how Boo would react to his first time on a trail. After a short and pretty drive, we arrived at the Annette Lake trail head.

I-90 East

I-90 East

Boo was raring to go! So many new smells. LOL The weather was amazing. Sunny but not too hot and the trail was in the shade most of the way. About a quarter mile in, there’s a bridge over a creek where you can enjoy the waterfall. We stopped to take a selfie. I kept cutting off half of my face in the pics but finally got a half decent one. But why do I look so creepy?!? hahaha

My cardio fitness is obviously lacking because I was pressure breathing to try to slow down my thumping heart. Everything was going fine until I started to feel something flopping around under my right boot. I looked down to see this:

What. The. Heezy.

What. The. Heezy.

Umm, yeah… The sole of my boot was consciously uncoupling from the rest of the shoe! :/ It was hanging on by a thread but I had to completely pull it off to prevent tripping on it and breaking my bum. LOL Seriously! Does this kind of stuff happen to anyone else? hahaha Or is it just me? I didn’t have any duct tape or string to MacGyver the boot so we had to turn around. On the way down, my left sole decides it’s not happy either and starts to disintegrate. Really??? Hahaha All I can do at this point is laugh. Hiking back down 1.5 miles with no soles on your shoes is embarrassing AND slippery. As clutzy as I am, I’m surprised I made it back to the car without breaking anything. Guess who gets a new pair of hiking boots? THIS GIRL! πŸ˜€

Oh, the carnage.

Oh, the carnage.

Boo seemed to be oblivious to my wardrobe malfunction and was happy as a clam about his new experience. He was well behaved and got to meet a lot of other pups along the trail. We’re going to attempt this trail again, once I have a proper pair of boots. haha I’m so curious to see how Boo reacts to the lake because he’s never seen open water.

Jon and Boo

Jon and Boo

Well, that’s all for now. Just about every neighbor is outside, blowing up stuff so I have to go comfort Boo. He’s OK with firecrackers but someone in my ‘hood is setting off what sounds like half sticks of dynamite. Have a fun and safe 4th!

ZOMG! 60 days!

Wow! The days are flying by. Before I know it, I’ll be at the starting line on Poipu Road! So not ready. LOL At least I’m consistent in my inconsistency. And because I like to torture myself, I picked the hottest day of the year to go out and run. hehe Seattle hit 94° today, broke prior records and everything. Yup, perfect day for a run. But my stupidity was strategic. Poipu will be HOT and HUMID at end of August so I’m acclimating myself to the heat. Now that I’m back home, sitting on my comfortable couch, I’m feeling a little lightheaded and questioning my critical thinking skills.

3.18 miles under my belt today but I had to mix in some walking. What have I got myself into? A half marathon in hot, humid weather starting with 7 miles of gradual climbing!?!? Eeeep! I’m telling myself I’ll finish any which way I can. If I have to crawl over the finish line, I will! Ha! I just hope I’m faster than the sweeper van that comes around and scoops up the stragglers.

I forgot to take photos of my meals and snacks the past couple of days. Imagine lots of spinach and spring mix with hard boiled eggs and jalapeno rings thrown on top. That’s pretty much what I’ve been having for lunch and dinner. I changed it up last night and tossed some ground bison and refried beans on top of my salad. Pretty dang yummy.

OOTD: Adidas climachill tee, lululemon mod moves crop, CEP arm coolers and lululemon visor. Bonus: spare tire.

Before the carnage

Before the carnage

Boo loves to lick my sweaty face but he also likes to lick his butt. Hork. I try not to let him kiss me on the mouth.

Boo has a really sensitive stomach. Pretty much anything other than his regular dry food gives him issues (poopy pants). We’ve been looking for dog treats that don’t bother his tummy. Recently, at Petpalooza, we scored some free samples of Hill’s Ideal Balance oven baked naturals in Turkey & Cranberries and Lamb & Apricots. He LOVED them! The best part is he didn’t have any stomach issues! Weeeeee! It’s nice to be able to give your a dog a treat here and there. πŸ™‚ Here’s a pic of my PetsMart haul for our happy pup.
